What can I expect from my first visit?

The first step in our journey together is your initial consultation appointment. At this visit, you will meet Dr Helen Flint, and she will discuss with you your concerns and your goals for your orthodontic treatment. Dr Flint will then carry out a full examination so she can evaluate your treatment needs, and determine the best treatment plan to meet your goals. We will take photographs of your face and teeth to allow Dr Flint to make a detailed evaluation of your face, jaws and teeth.

Once the examination is complete, we will:

  • Discuss with you our clinical findings and diagnosis

  • Explain the treatment options on offer to achieve your desired outcomes

  • Provide you with a detailed treatment plan, including our fees, and discuss a customised payment plan that suits your budget

  • Answer any questions you may have about your orthodontic treatment

If you are ready to go ahead with your treatment plan, we will book your appointments to start your treatment.

We believe that to get a great result we need to work as a team with your dentist, so we will send a detailed report, and copies of any photos and X rays, to your dentist following your initial appointment.

What happens during my treatment?

Once you’re ready to get started you will come in to get your appliances fitted. This visit will usually take around an hour. Once your orthodontic appliances are fitted, we will talk to you about how to look after your appliances and your teeth while your treatment is ongoing.

Once treatment is underway, you will need to come and see Dr Flint regularly for monitoring and adjustments. These appointments usually last 15-30 minutes, and will be scheduled every 6-10 weeks depending on the treatment option you have chosen.

What happens after my treatment?

Finally, the big day has arrived, and you’re ready to reveal your new smile to the world. But that’s not the end of your journey with us, and you will need to wear retainers to keep your smile looking beautiful.

We will discuss the best options for retention with you when you are close to the end of your treatment, and help you to choose the retainer type that’s right for you. We will provide you with at least two years of after-care and monitoring of your retainers, to make sure your teeth stay perfectly positioned.

What is an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has undertaken an additional 3 years of full-time university education to become a specialist. They are experts at diagnosing and treating teeth and jaw alignment issues.

How much does treatment cost?

The cost of treatment varies depending on the type of treatment you choose and the expected duration of the treatment. You will be provided with a detailed quote for all your treatment options following your initial consultation.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we do. At Annandale Village Orthodontics we offer flexible interest free payment options to help spread the cost of your treatment.

Do I need a referral to see an Orthodontist?

No, you don’t need a referral, and here at AVO we are happy to welcome anyone interested in orthodontic treatment. We do recommend that if it’s more than six months since you last saw your dentist that you see them for a check-up before starting your orthodontic treatment.
